February 15, 2021
USAPEEC Veterinary Trade Policy Advisor Dr. John Clifford has sent a letter to select USDA staff in key Asian markets stating that testing poultry imports including product packaging for the presence of the COVID-19 virus serves no purpose.
Clifford wrote that, “Our industry understands that poultry is not involved in the transmission of COVID-19. Bringing clarity to this issue, through an explanation of the science involved in determining food product safety, is essential.”
