Speakers at the 2022 USAPEEC Annual Meeting in Vail, Colo. covered a wide variety of topic areas and issues,
but one common theme that emerged was that there is reason to be optimistic when it comes to the poultry industry and exports, but there also is cause for concern.
Rabobank’s Christine McCracken, who spoke on the third day of the program, even had a theme for her presentation, “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” reflecting the mixed state of things. The poultry sector is better off than many others, she said, thanks to production trends.
Bill Duggan of Eskesen Advisory offered a positive example to begin his presentation, a recap of the industry’s situation this year at the Port of Houston. A fuller account of the problem and resolution at the port is contained in this issue of MondayLine. The answer to a difficult situation came thanks to the efforts of a cooperative partnership involving industry, the port, and government. It is, Duggan pointed out, “a good story in bad times for transportation.”
