Presumptive finding of HPAI in Tennessee
September 14, 2022
USAPEEC has been notified of a presumptive finding of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) at a backyard poultry premises in Tennessee.
The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has indicated that samples have been sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratories for confirmation. If confirmed positive, USAPEEC understands the finding will be classified as “poultry” per the OIE definition, and restrictions on trade from the area can be expected for numerous markets, including China, with updates anticipated in the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Export Library.
Exporters are advised to work with their importers to ensure that all products from the affected area will be eligible by the receiving country.
APHIS this week also posted two new confirmations of HPAI in Minnesota and one in Utah.
