Chinese importers ask for letter attesting to COVID-free product
June 22, 2020
A number of USAPEEC members were asked late this week by their Chinese importers to provide a letter attesting that the products they ship to China are not at risk for COVID-19, and that they are following the guidelines of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and China.
Similar requests were sent to a cross-section of other suppliers of meat and seafood from around the world. It was unclear whether trading companies were also being asked to provide a statement or just production companies.
While some companies in the U.S. and in other countries already have signed a statement to that effect, the USDA is now advising companies not to sign or provide such a statement.
